Checklist for bringing home your Ragdoll kitten

Whether you’re headed to the next town to pick up your new Ragdoll kitten or have the kitten airlifted, here are a few items you might want to make sure you have before you bring your Ragdoll kitten home.

o Pet Carrier – If your kitty is shipped, she will come with one. Otherwise, you’ll want to get one to take your kitty home and use when you go to the vet. Make sure the cages are big enough for when the kittens get older. Medium size should be fine. If you are looking for a baby carrier because of its size, then you want to get one that weighs about 20 pounds. And this is something that you will have for the life of your pet, so don’t worry too much about spending a lot because you will have it for a long time!

o Towel – Have an absorbent cloth towel handy for your cat to rest, and in case of an accident on the potty, if he spends a long time in the carrier.

o Food: Get what your breeder recommends or is feeding you now. If you don’t like your choice of food, you’ll still need to have the food you’re used to and then you can switch to whatever you want later. There are guidelines on how to transition cats to different foods and it is very important to follow them.

o Food and water bowls: I recommend stainless steel or ceramic bowls for easy cleanup. Plastic ones are known to cause acne in cats, so it’s best to avoid them altogether.

o Litter box: You could also buy a large one, as your kitten will need it when she grows up.

o Litter – You will want to have the litter your breeder has been using, so your kitten will immediately recognize it and want to use the litter box. Of course, you can also transition to another litter later on, but at first, you’ll want the same type your breeder is using.

o Cat toys – think about buying cat wand toys, catnip cat toys, and even interactive cat toys; here are a few to consider:

– Neko Flies

– Yeah! catnip banana

-Bergan Turbo Scraper

o Scraper – Again, see what the breeder has in his house and then see if you can find something similar. This allows your kitty to scratch vertically.

o Scratching post: A horizontal scratching post, such as a cardboard one, allows your kitty to scratch down, rather than up (vertically). There are many toys that are multipurpose as they are both a scratcher and a toy like the Bergan Turbo Scratcher

o Brushing and combing: Many Ragdoll cats don’t require a significant amount of brushing, but it’s important to get your kitten used to being brushed from an early age so that by the time she’s 19 she doesn’t hate the feeling. Therefore, brushing your cat also creates an excellent opportunity for the pet owner and cat to bond.

o Nail clippers: your breeder can recommend what type of nail clippers to buy. It is important to get them used to nail clippers and the feeling of having their nails trimmed from an early age.
