A look at wireless security cameras

If you need to partially hide your cameras from view, wireless security cameras are the way to go. Places like banks use a combination of wireless and wired, visible and covert cameras to intimidate would-be thieves, but continue to photograph them even if the wired cameras are disabled.

Las Vegas casinos do the same. Look around you next time you walk into a casino or bank. There are obvious cameras and these are for “advertising” purposes. That is, they are there to intimidate a possible thief or thief into not doing anything, knowing that his actions are being recorded. The owners of these establishments want you to see these cameras and they want you to think twice before you do something bad in their places of business.

Then there are the hidden cameras. They’re almost always wireless, so they can be placed anywhere, taking pictures through tiny holes in walls or ceilings, or from behind ordinary purpose-built devices you’d expect to find on location. Wireless security cameras are what provide information to the police about who may have committed a crime after they disabled the visible systems.

Wireless cameras can be battery operated. That is, they are used to monitor the activities of people for a limited time. Their advantage is that they can be placed in a variety of concealable positions, much more so than a camera that requires a cable to connect to both its power source and a recording device.

Lately, these cameras have been integrated into watches, children’s toys, and other common household devices and have been dubbed “nanny cams.” They became more popular to catch babysitters and babysitters who take care of precious youngsters who may not yet speak. Horrible abuse sometimes occurs when unbalanced adults are left in charge of young children who cannot speak.

Concerned parents began using these devices to record the actions of the adult in charge while they were away. The couple could then play the tapes and see what happened in her absence. Some of these tapes were so outrageously horrifying in what they captured on video that they led to the prosecution of the adult offender and often ended up on national tabloid television shows. They have since evolved into an ingeniously concealed, built-in device found quite often in homes where young children are being watched by hired helpers.
