Are you really too old to learn?

Therefore, I am an avid watcher of business shows; I would say my whole life revolves around watching business shows which are stations like CNN, MSNBC and FOX just to name a few. I find them very informative, and many times you can learn a lot from others who have been where you are going or are where you aspire to be.

You can never know too much as there is always something to learn in life – even the smartest and richest people on the planet are learning something every day, even if it is just about themselves. You are never too old to learn something that can ultimately be beneficial to you, it is something that I have discovered in life.

Often times, many of the experts who are panelists or guests on these shows provide excellent advice to those who are small business owners or thinking of owning a small business. On one of the MSNBC shows, a small business owner wrote in to ask when she should hire a public relations firm. She expressed that she was already active on social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, but she felt that she needed to go a step further, even beyond those outlets. The advice given by one of the panelists was that she should hire a public relations firm when her budget allows, as a last resort, because sometimes hiring an advertising firm can be very expensive for someone who owns a small business. While I thought that was good advice, I thought another way to answer that was for the business owner to maybe do business with a public relations firm, who may need their services, or look for other affordable options that allow them to for her to take advantage of the great fringe benefits that come along with great publicity.

Although I felt that the aforementioned panelist could have handled the ‘when to hire a publicist’ question a bit better, I found that I had learned valuable information about the importance of how some people view public relations, and while that’s not why I saw the show: I watch them often not knowing what kind of questions will be asked on some of the shows, but again there was another lesson learned. So you don’t have to watch a business show to learn something tangible, because the fact is you can be in a department store looking at clothes and learn something, because it all depends on how you see the situation at hand. My suggestion would be to always take advantage of every moment to learn, even from the simplest.
