How To Become A UK Driving Instructor In 2019

I have recently been very fortunate to meet the owner of a very successful local driving school and was blown away by what he had to say. Did you know that he can work his own hours, be his own boss and get paid £50k per year to be a driving instructor here in the UK?

Neither do I!

I honestly thought it was just another job where you worked all the hours God sent you and got paid around £25k per year which is about average.

So the first thing you need to do is find a driving school that will accept you as a learner and then support you after you qualify.

The reason for this is that it’s too hard to do on your own if you’re just starting out, in theory you COULD do it, but it’s not recommended.

Some schools even reimburse your training costs which is amazing as the average training is around £2500 once everything is paid the actual exams are cheaper local but there are all the car costs to consider, etc.

So once you have an approved school backing you, there are three parts to a test that you will need to complete to become an ADI.

Part 1 – The theory test.

This is similar to a test that people who are learning to drive will have to pass, except this time you have to know what you are doing inside and out because you will be the guide to follow later.

Part 2 – A driving test

You MUST be a great driver! That doesn’t mean you know how to make donuts in the local parking lot because you can control a car, it means you are a safe and competent driver and have the ability to influence others to be like you when they do it. they are on the way.

Part 3 – Educational Ability Test

This is where the metal hits the road. Do you have what it takes? If you just can’t teach other people, this is where you’ll find out; however, this is also the part of the course where you are TEACHED to TEACH.

Some people are natural teachers and love influencing other people’s actions for the better and some are just too different to be able to have such an effect on other people this sounds a bit regretful but essentially if you’re a loner who doesn’t like to get together . people or if he is too boisterous and often inconsiderate or lacks empathy, then he will not be a good instructor.

An ideal instructor enjoys being around other people, has empathy, patience, and the ability to calmly and clearly explain things to other people.
