Linksys E1000 Cisco Connect Software

Cisco has released new software with its new E series and Valet routers. Cisco Connection Software will make setting up your network a breeze. You can transform anyone into a networking expert.

The Linksys E1000 is nothing more than a Linksys WRT160N router with the included Cisco Connect software. The Linksys E3000 is nothing more than a Linksys WRT610N router with Cisco connection software.

You can use the Cisco Connection Software for the initial setup of your new E-Series router. When you run the software for the first time, it will ask you to connect your modem to the router. But it will not ask you to connect the computer to the router. However, it will be better if you connect the computer to the router with an Ethernet cable. Otherwise, it won’t find the router and you’ll get the “we can’t find your router” error. Run the program and at the end it will connect you to the Internet. You don’t need to do anything.

The software will do all the settings on its own. It will also create the new wireless network with the unique name and password. The name of your wireless network will be a full name like the name of a fruit or animal with color, for example, white monkey or something else. You will get all the wireless settings at the end of the installation. Later you can change the SSID and security key.

It is recommended that you change the basic wireless settings using the Cisco connection software and not the router’s web-based utility. If you change the security settings using a web-based utility, the software will stop working. Also, the Cisco connection software does not support WEP security settings.

You can also set up your E-series router without the Cisco connection software. You just need to open the settings page of the router and change the settings manually.

You can set up your E-series router without connecting your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable. Reset the E series router to factory default settings. Now, find the wireless network on your wireless computer. You will see your wireless network name as “ciscoABCDE” where A,B,C,D,E will be the last 5 digits of your router’s serial number. Check the last 5 digits of the serial number on the bottom of your router. Connect to that wireless network. The default password for that network will be “password”. Once you connect to the wireless network, you can set up your router. You can again run the CD.

Once you install the Cisco Connection Software, you’ll find this software in every program on your Windows computer. When you open the software, you will get 4 options there.

Computers and devices: You can create an easy setup key to easily connect another computer to the wireless network.

Parental Controls: you can restrict internet access for a particular tile.

Guest access settings: Here you can manage guest access settings.

Advanced settings: You can change the network name or security settings. You can also open the configuration page of the router.
