Organize Your Craft Workspace: Storing Ribbon Scraps

If your craft space is cluttered with lots of bits of ribbon lying around, this is your solution to corral the clutter AND spark your creativity. This little organizer will allow you to hang all your scraps where they’re easy to see… and you’ll be more likely to use them for your next scrapbook page or greeting card. Let us begin!

Today’s Featured Project: Tape Remnant Organizer

supplies needed: Plastic-coated wire hanger, acrylic craft paint, foam brush, mini wooden clothespins, embellishments, quick-action adhesive (or hot glue gun), and tape scraps

Starting:

  1. If you don’t already have them, buy a small bottle or two of acrylic craft paint, a small foam brush, and a package of mini wooden clothespins.
  2. Pull out a heavy-duty plastic-coated wire hanger from your closet (tubular plastic hangers are too thick!). If available, choose a color that matches your workspace color scheme…or be brave and choose a new color!
  3. Search drawers, boxes, and bins for all your leftover ribbon (such as ½” Stampin’ Up! Striped Grosgrain Ribbon or 5/8″ Satin Ribbon). All your essentials are close at hand…let’s get to work!

Decorate your clothespins:

  1. Use your foam brush and acrylic craft paint to paint your wooden clothespins.
  2. Paint the front, back, and sides. Be careful not to get any paint on you in the spring as it will ‘freeze’ the clasp and your pin won’t work! The paint will dry quickly, so this step shouldn’t take too long.
  3. If you prefer you can paint pins in different colors, you can paint multiple colors on each pin, the choice is yours!

Now let’s add some personality!

  1. Choose your favorite ribbon and tie it to the hanger at the point where the ‘hook’ joins the body of the hanger. Make several loops for the bow to give it more volume…and make it more of a feature on the hanger.
  2. Take several of your clothespins and add embellishments to them, securing them with quick-acting glue or even a hot glue gun. I suggest crochet flowers (like Stampin’ Up! Fleurettes), buttons (like Stampin’ Up! Designer Buttons), and some embellishments (like Stampin’ Up! Basic Strass or Basic Pearls).
  3. You can even add shimmer with paint or glitter (such as Stampin’ Up! Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint or Stampin’ Emboss Powder). The possibilities are endless!

Woww… you’re done with the build… now it’s time to put it together!

  1. Use your decorated pins to hang your ribbons on the hanger in the way that best suits your needs…by color, by size, by type/texture.
  2. Then find a prominent spot in your craft workspace and hang your new remnant ribbon organizer.

Congratulations! You’re done! Your Tape Remnant OrganizerIt will keep your pieces of ribbon organized and easy to find, and add a nice pop of color to your room. You’ll be amazed at how often you’ll add ribbons to your craft projects now that they’re easy to see and use!
