Simple Ways to Update the Look of Your Kitchen on a Budget

The kitchen is the place where everyone gathers in a home. There is no use fighting it because that is where people naturally gravitate. If you have an outdated look, there are several options that allow you to update it for a relatively low price.

One easy and cheap One way to update a kitchen is to add or change cabinet hardware. This simple change can have a big impact on the appearance of your kitchen. A clean brushed nickel pull with square edges calls for a more contemporary style, while an ornate, oil-bronzed look might be more traditional.

Not only is it easy to change the hardware, but you can probably do it for $100 or less depending on the style you choose. Be sure to check your local stores and online stores to try and find the exact look you want. If you can dream it, it has probably already been done.

The next upgrade that can be done relatively cheaply is painting or staining the cabinets. This job is more labor intensive than adding new hardware, but the look can really bring those outdated cabinets up to today’s standards. Most cabinet paint jobs are white or brown and these colors seem to go with just about anything. Be sure to do your research when considering this upgrade so you know what you’re getting into ahead of time.

Another inexpensive upgrade is to add a backsplash. Subway tile is a classic look that appeals to a lot of people, and you can do it relatively cheaply. The transformation that the right rear guard can bring is priceless. Just be sure to consider the myriad of options available today. There are tiles, mosaics, glass, metal, laminate, faux tin, and many other types of materials that can be used.

The final update I’d like to bring to your attention is your kitchen lighting. If you are tired of looking at that fluorescent lamp, you can easily change it in a few hours. Be sure to turn off the power and if you are not sure what you are doing, call an electrician. It is always better to be on the safe side. It’s amazing what a $100 light fixture can do to a kitchen. Now instead of your lamp being an eye sore, it’s a focal point. I like pendant lighting and track lighting for kitchens, but go with what works best for your home.

Under cabinet lighting is another way to add more light and style to your kitchen. For me, the additional lighting reminds me of a showroom and makes everything look more luxurious and elegant. Under cabinet lights can be purchased relatively inexpensively and can be installed quietly and easily, as most kits just plug into regular outlets in your home.

No matter what renovation you choose to do, always stay true to yourself and your style. Creating a warm atmosphere in your home that you love is all that matters.
