The real difference between marketing and advertising

They sound similar but in reality they are not.

Most people believe that marketing and advertising are the same. The fact is, they are not. What is known as advertising is only one part of the whole game, which is marketing. Marketing includes the complete development of a brand, starting with research and then moving on to design, advertising, selling, etc. Advertising is considered part of the entire marketing process, which sends the message through various mediums, in order to promote a product.

Advertising is one of the most important components.

Advertising is undoubtedly the most important component of the marketing strategy, but at the same time it is the most expensive. Advertising consists of sending the message to an audience about a company, services or products. At the same time, advertising represents the work process behind the scenes, which includes the development of various strategies and methods to finally capture the attention of a target audience. These strategies include planning various actions such as the following: buying ads, deciding where to buy ad space, the media to be used, time, frequency, and various other factors. The media used to place advertising are the following: mail, newspapers, television, internet, email, magazine flyers, billboards, etc. Television is considered the most popular, although the Internet is the one that is becoming popular the fastest.

Think of marketing as the whole cake.

An excellent approach to making the difference between marketing and advertising is to view marketing as a whole cake and advertising as a piece of a cake. Some other parts of the pie are: product design, product pricing, customer satisfaction, market research, sales, etc. These pieces of the pie are expected to function independently, but at the same time as a whole, to achieve a much larger goal. To illustrate this, we can think about the sales process of a specific process and, at the same time, build the reputation of the company involved in a specific market. In this way, marketing can be seen as a marathon process, involving several tasks that require several hours or even days of research. This research is the most time-consuming marketing process. The reason for this is related to the fact that it involves a deep understanding of the way people behave towards a specific product. Two other time-consuming elements are: product design and development of an advertising strategy. The components that require much less time are: running ads and sales. Similarly, marketing can be seen as a medium between the consumers of the product and the company.

Businesses often make the mistake of confusing advertising with marketing.

Most of the time, companies, especially new ones, make the mistake of confusing the two. What they do is compete with big known companies in advertising, ignoring what is behind. To illustrate this, we can think of a logo. For many business owners, the logo represents the most important factor of the company in their advertisements. They believe that a better logo will bring more sales. It is true that the logo is good, only if the reputation behind a company is good, in other words, the reputation of a company makes the logo. It is imperative that the record reflects the values of the company. It is important to note that these large companies invest a lot of capital in advertising, new companies cannot afford to do the same. Based on this, the most important thing is to invest money and time in establishing communication with consumers. The message should tell consumers that the company understands their needs. It’s about educating consumers, it’s about giving them an understanding that the company knows what it is doing and that it is the best way to do it.

Smart marketers have an aggressive approach rather than a passive one.

Savvy marketers have the ability to really provoke readers’ minds by suggesting they take certain actions, rather than simply telling them the existence of the product. They also know how to bring to the company, contacts (including names, addresses and phone numbers), who are interested in using the services of the company. They do this by using what is known as aggressive marketing. Here is the key to a good marketing campaign, it definitely talks a lot about a specific company and the services and products it offers, then advertising is what adds the special touch to that hard work that marketers did.
