Ideas on how to make antique kitchen cabinets

Many people, including teenagers, love the vintage look when they choose the clothes they wear. As adults, we much prefer vintage design when used to decorate our homes. A great and inexpensive way to use this design in your home is to create vintage cabinets. There are two ways that you will have the ability to run this; staining and distress.

distressing method

For this method to work, the cabinets must already be painted. If they aren’t, you can buy an off-white or lighter color to put them on top. Try to select a color that can match the decor in the rest of the room, as something can be seen through.

Use a medium grit sandpaper and sand around the edges and handles. This will help create a worn look. Don’t panic if you see wood under the paint. This means that you are doing it correctly.

staining method

Place a tarp or old sheet around your work space. Remove cabinets to make it easier to work on. Start with cabinets that have been stained or painted a lighter color. Sand them lightly with medium-grit sandpaper.

You can find a wide variety of dyes in different colors. For a more dramatic look, you’ll need to wear something dark in color. However, some of the medium to light colors will work as well. Try to use a color that works for the rest of the room. Lightly apply the stain to the cabinets with a brush.

When the stain has been applied, use a sponge with paper towels to clean it up. This is what will give you the grained look of an old cabinet. To make it look normal, you need to focus most of this work on the cabinet handles and edges. When you’re done, set up new handles that will finish the look.
