Is there a difference between erotic movies, sexy reality TV, or pornography?

Before I was able to raise funds to write, produce and direct independent feature films, I started in reality programming. Created the reality series America’s Wildest Bachelor Parties (AWBP). I enjoyed distribution success with it and was able to launch Slice of Americana Films. I consider myself a passionate writer, producer and director. But I also like creating fun and sexy entertainment.

I have been working with the same editor, Tim Beachum aka The SEO Bully, for almost 7 years. In that time, he and I occasionally reached out to friends or friends of friends outside of the entertainment industry who want to enter the porn industry. The tone is usually the same. They have access to hot talent, a nice location, and money to budget for the shoot.

I was in Virginia Beach in a bar with Tim, we were having a few beers when the waitress kept looking at me a little weird. A couple of rounds later he asked me, “What if I really were a California porn producer?” Tim laughed. He knows I don’t like it when people get the wrong information. That’s why he kept laughing.

I asked her where she heard that, the owner of the place showed her previews for America’s wildest bachelor parties and the private fantasy strip shows she had produced. She had won a thong contest battle on the beach recently and thought there was more money in adult entertainment. She got $ 500 for winning the contest and showing herself to a rowdy crowd.

Like a scene from a bad movie, Tim introduces me to the owner and decides to laugh at my expense. The owner tells me about producing a pornographic film in a house on the beach that he owns. I always try to be polite in these situations with a “thank you, but no thank you” type of response, especially when the ice-cold buckets of beer, premium drinks, and food are in the house. I told him I didn’t do adult entertainment, not because I had a moral stance, it just wasn’t my thing.

He had seen America’s Wildest Bachelor Parties California and Las Vegas editions on VOD and Fantasy Striptease Private Shows on DVD. He told me that in his eyes they were pornography. Tim knew what my answer was going to be, he has heard me tell other people many times. AWBP and Fantasy Striptease are on Amazon.com, that company doesn’t sell porn. Sex scenes or simulated sex scenes are not depicted. AWBP is a fun reality series like Jersey Shore. There’s drinking, strippers, nudity, and tons of laughs. The famous “tequila booty shot” was invented on camera with AWBP: CA by us. Fantasy Striptease is what I like to call tasteful erotic cinema with a high production value.

Private Fantasy Strip Shows – Sexy pin-up girls of your dreams come to life on screen. Six beautifully shot vignettes blur the line between reality and fantasy. Little Red Riding Hood, Naughty Schoolgirl, Sexy CEO, Summer Girl, Latina Bikini Model and Fiery Red Devil want to offer you a private show with a point of view you will not forget.

Filmed so tastefully that you can watch it alone or with that special someone. This DVD is a modern take on old pin-up beauties. Sizzling soundtrack added to enhance viewing enjoyment. This is a romantic trip that you will see again and again. Hell, I know for a fact the soundtrack is being played in cars from So Cal to New York because the artists that make it up are spreading the word.

Even my good friend Tim thinks those titles could fall into the category of pornography.

I still don’t agree with that. When Playboy TV was interested in acquiring the rights to America’s wildest bachelor parties, I had a meeting at their production offices in Los Angeles. The executive I met with dug into the concept, wanted to move on BUT needed it to include sex scenes and a cameo from a famous pornstar in every episode.

Honestly, I don’t know if I made the right decision to spend working with Playboy TV, money is money after all. The general points of the deal were discussed which included 3 episodes guaranteed in advance, if it worked well they would produce 10 episodes each season with a fixed budget. He would act as a creative producer on a salary per episode. His in-house production team and editing staff would do the rest. Los Angeles production offices are designed to be efficient and generate content. It is by no means ostentatious in this place.

I keep broadcasting offers to direct and produce adult entertainment for newcomers with cash and a couple of the big Chatsworth companies. I also pass offers to direct mainstream indie films that I know are not going to work. I guess I haven’t become a full-fledged mercenary yet. I won’t commit to working on another production company’s project unless I really like the script and the producers involved. That’s why I like to do ghostwriting and screenwriting jobs. My name only appears on the check.

It would be interesting to get feedback on what they think are the differences between erotic cinema, sexy reality show, and porn. Or if there really is a difference like I think there is. I include nudity in independent films if it fits the story. My last two films were about drug money, street power, and sex. So it seemed natural to have a couple of racy scenes between characters. One of my Consignment movies has one of the longest and highest-rated strip scenes in movie history. This is independent filmmaker Sid Kali writing SMASH CUT:
